Larkspur is one of Marin's many jewels hidden off of Highway 101 just a few miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
After the Golden Gate Bridge was built in 1937, San Franciscans began migrating to Larkpur to camp among the now-protected redwood forests and, ultimately, to build their summer homes along winding roads. Some of those homes have been updated and are desirably tucked away on roads such as the one above in what was Baltimore Park.
The hiking/biking trailheads in Larkspur, as in many Marin cities, lead virtually unobstructed all the way to West Marin's coastline because of the county's commitment to Open Space.
The downtown area, which has been maintained -- albeit updated with first-class restaurants and chic specialty shops -- is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As in most of the County, the school system is superb, and Larkspur's climate is somewhat tempered from Marin's hottest days because of its proximity to the Bay.
If you are interested in viewing any of the wonderful homes available in Larkspur, you can see them here: Larkspur Homes.
